sleep paralysis
« on: March 10, 2011, 02:01:06 am »
i wanna know if anyone knows what this is or has had it and would like to share their stories if you dont here's the basic definition

sleep paralysis: occurs during rem sleep, but people have reported waking up during this stage of sleep and not been able to move.

i've had it quite a few times not recently but it does plague me from time to time even though it occurs in everyone while they sleep because it happens during rem sleep not only me but other people have experienced it aswell. ive been told it happens when your under alot of stress and when your body needs sleep like a good deep sleep but your brain keeps working while your sleeping and you wake up but your bodys resting. most people dont know but when you leave the t.v on at night your brain still processes those t.v shows even though you dont remember them because your body shuts down just not your brain.

it says some people have hallucinations ive had them twice and they're really terrifying tbh because your brain makes them seem real when they're not at all real. when your in sleep paralysis you cant move at all not a muscle and you cannot talk either no matter how hard you try you can also hear things as well the only thing you control is breathing and your eyes. this has also been called "old hags disease" which i really have no idea why but the name stuck to it. maybe because people who draw pictures of sleep paralysis it shows a which with her knees on your chest preventing you from moving.

if you do have it only thing i can suggest is to calm down remind yourself its not real and to keep your eyes shut really because that's the only thing you can do is makes yourself go back into sleep or else you'll scare yourself to death.

with all this said have you ever had it if so id like to see some of your stories.

I have never had this, yet I believe that it isnt true paralysis, its just an illusion that your brain is creating, seeing hwo you are still able to move your body but your brain is blocking access to it, like how some people when they get frightened they "cant" move because their fear "freezes" them in place. They still have the capability of movement, just their brain is creating the illusion that they cant. And about the T.V, thats with anything during sleep. Like me, my dreams are influenced mostly by people talking and watching T.V when I sleep since I sleep on the couch in my living room. Same thing if you were listening to your Ipod or Mp3 player while sleeping since your brain is most active while asleep. And your brain does remember those things, just its subconscious and you dont realize it ^^. Sorry if I got off topic >.>. And I have heard of sleep paralysis :o

naw you didnt get off topic and no you cannot move your body at all in sleep paralysis only your eyes and breathing thats it nothing else you have no control over everything else plus you dont always see or hear things sometimes it just happens and you just end up falling back to sleep without being scared seeing and hearing things isnt real common but it happens ive never heard anything but ive seen things only twice. its a real interesting thing to experience if you dont see or hear anything.

Sleep Paralysis is really a paralization due to chemicals released during your sleeping period. Psychology ftw :) one of the few classes i took in college and semi paid attention to before dropping it. and its creepy as hell. i've had it a few times. and have you ever woke up and your extremeties were tingling a little? yeah that's the paralization wearing off ^.^

I've heard people see even illusions durning things like those. I've had this 2 times without illusion. It's just that your brain is awake and your body is asleep.
